The Mystery of Pulmonary Embolism
Mrs S.F, a 49-year-old scientist, had a high-powered job, which amongst other pressures, involved a lot of international travel.
For the past 2 years, she had noticed episodes of shortness of breath - often associated with flying. She initially attributed these episodes to stress - though, deep down, she didn't think this was the case. The episodes commonly came on late in the flight or shortly after arrival at her destination.
Chest Pain Ignored
Mrs L.U. aged 49: In retrospect, Mrs L.U. had many of the features of Hughes Syndrome / APS, going back over at least 25 years. In her early 20s she was investigated for infertility. She felt that on at least a couple of occasions, she had in fact become pregnant but miscarried early.

Triumph Over Lost Sight & Heart Attack
At the age of 35 I started to become very ill. I had dizzy spells, horrendous migraines that could last for weeks, I had all of the early symptoms of Multiple sclerosis and I also had an over active thyroid. My memory was terrible, I ached all over, I was so tired I couldn’t function. I had 4 young children and had to have help in the house to cope. I couldn’t read as the words were blurred and jumped all over the page. I lost the sight in one eye whilst shopping for about 5 minutes. I couldn’t peel potatoes, my son Mike who often accompanies me to Hughes syndrome events, used to do that job for me, my arms were too painful.
